Framing

I have framed drawings for many years but not ever my paintings. I've always thought that painting around the sides with a continuation of the lines and colors of the painting was the best way to finish my work. Last week I finally framed a painting and to my surprise, I love it. I am more pleased with the look than I had expected. What has always worked in the past is not always the best way of doing something. I'm working on being more flexible.

Too nice to be in the house

 Let it flow

Today was a warm day with no wind and I happened to have a huge cardboard box. So it was definitely a day to experiment. Water, acrylics, ink, sticks and leaves lay on the ground waiting for the fun to begin. After some pouring, adjusting and readjusting of the canvases, letting things dry and pouring some more, I was surprised with what took place on my canvases. The sunlight peaked through the trees  and helped me embrace the freedom to just play. Then it was time to head into the studio for some exploration of shapes. It took me some time to see what was there and what could be pulled out and highlighted with details. Intuition and a need for visual balance with forms and color lead to the larger painting becoming more whimsical. I wanted to create more visual interest without loosing the movement.

The paint and inks on the two small canvases took on a movement that I did not want to disturb. All they needed was a small amount of cleaning up.

Here is the result of a day at play.

Turn it around

Sometimes a painting surprises you and decides to be its best and most balanced in a different direction than you had painted it. No-one can. stop it! It decides. Here is one example called Moss

Moved and Painting again

It has been a while since I've posted. So many things have happened in the world.

Also, my husband and I have moved and am now fully enjoying my new surroundings as well as my new home studio. I have been painting.

This Painting - Fly Away - has some of my favorite fun colors and it gives me a free unstoppable feeling. I love a square painting.

Politics

Although I still have serenity in my lovely studio, I feel an undercurrent of frantic despair as I helplessly watch the news daily. There are many questions unanswered in my head, most of them involving where this country is going. Still, art must go on and I am pleased that my brain still has enough willpower to create. This one was a whirlwind, like the unstoppable news.

 Turning worry into whimsical

When life's worry actually gets you into the studio and you just shut the world out, this happens....

A feeling of calm movement

I began a painting with calmness in mind, but as with many of my pieces, emotions took over. It became clear that there had to be some chaos involved before the shapes could line up. Hence the painting is called Finding Order in Chaos.

Pink

My work took a different turn this month and surprises me with some crazy spring fun. As always I'm having a blast in my little home studio.
