My latest painting started out with topographical landscape in mind and ended up making me feel like the viewer is being moved around by currents. There is a flow that takes you from one side of the painting to the other.
My artwork focuses on subtleties in form, color and movement. I try to show the viewer beauty in simple organic images and shapes while using instinct rather than deliberate calculated decisions.

Above and Below
This oil painting came about after a trip to the Bahamas. The colors, the heat and the interesting play of light on the water all influenced me. Here is the progression and the difference in seeing the piece vertically versus horizontally.

The Owl
A new beginning
Sometime a painting just can't be saved. Frustration lead me to covering it with gray paint and starting all over.
Here is how the new painting evolved.

Power of Orange
This painting began with the focus on movement and growth. Next I gave this piece the vibrant colors that were filled in my head. Living in a warm climate with an abundant visual display of natures joyful colors gives me so much of my inspiration.

Lemmon Tree
Every painting seems to begin with a direction of movement. I love seeing a shape turn into something that has some sort of connection to my life. Lemon tree is an experiment for me. The one in my yard as well as the one on this canvas represent a connections to nature.

Underground
I had some color inspiration a few weeks ago when I went to a nursery and spotted an array of colorful flowers and blooming trees. What is life without a dash of color? My mind went underground and the paint began to flow. I painted this fun little piece that will hopefully make the viewer feel inspired and alive.

Life under water
Having lived on a boat for several years, I often think about the gentle motion we would feel when at anchor in a beautiful cove or along the river. I would imagine how that motion of the water effected the plant life below. This painting is almost done. I found myself painting it quickly and without thought. It just flowed. It is a part of me, a glimpse of my recollections.
